Graham Potter Trusted for Chelsea's Long Term Project
Chelsea has appointed a new coach after sacking Thomas Tuchel. The coach is Graham Potter who was given a five-year contract. Potter (47 years old) was recruited after three years coaching Brighton & Hove Albion.
"We are very pleased to bring Graham to Chelsea. He is a proven coach and innovator in the Premier League who fits our vision for the club," said Chelsea owner Todd Boehly of Graham Potter's arrival.
"Not only is he incredibly talented on the pitch, but he also has skills and abilities that go beyond the pitch that will makeChelseabecome a more successful club."
"He had a huge impact at his previous club and we look forward to his positive impact at Chelsea. We look forward to supporting him, his coaching team, and his squad in realizing their full potential in the months and years to come."
It didn't take long for Chelsea to appoint Potter as the new coach, which means that the management has already made a choice for the former Swansea City coach despite the names of other candidates such as Mauricio Pochettino and Zinedine Zidane.
Judging by Boehly's words, Chelsea prepared Potter for a long-term project. That commitment is confirmed by a report from Matt Law in The Telegraph, according to him Chelsea will not fire Potter if Chelsea fails to achieve targets this season.
One of the targets is to finish in the top four of the Premier League and play in the Champions League next season. If it fails to achieve these targets, Potter will not be fired by Chelsea. Boehly and his right-hand man, Behdad Eghbali, believe Potter is the right person for Chelsea's long term.
Potter will not be playing his first game as Chelsea coach in the near future due to the postponement of week seven of the Premier League, following the sad news of the death of Queen Elizabeth II. Chelsea will only play again in the Champions League against RB Salzburg at Stamford Bridge, Thursday (15/09) at midnight in IST.
