Bend by PSG, Juventus Wasted Too Many Chances
Juventus coach Massimiliano Allegri expressed his heart after losing 2-1 to Paris Saint-Germain on matchday 1 of Group H of the 2022-2023 Champions League at the Parc des Princes Wednesday (7/9). Allegri thinks the Bianconeri have wasted too many chances.
Juventus had to admit PSG's advantage after losing by a narrow score of 2-1. Kylian Mbappe became the visitors' nightmare with his two goals. Meanwhile, Juve could only reply once through Weston McKennie in the 53rd minute.
Allegri feels that Juve actually has many opportunities to score goals. Statistics record, that La Vecchia Signora fired 13 shots, while PSG recorded 15 opportunities.
"We played a good game. It was a wasted opportunity. We had to be clearer in the last minutes," Allegri told Canale 5.
"We had to create more chances on the left. We didn't do enough. We could have been dangerous in that situation with McKennie wide on the right. We have to improve, it's a wasted opportunity."
"One thing that is difficult is when you don't have the ball, sometimes we are disturbed in the first half. We had more courage in the second half. We played a good game, but we have to be distracted by the result," said the former AC Milan coach.
Apart from Mbappe, Allegri also gives special credit to Lionel Messi and Neymar. The existence of these two players made it difficult for Juve's game to develop.
"We wanted to be more aggressive. However, Messi and Neymar played really well when they came from far away to get the ball. So it was difficult to hold them back and we had to slow down a bit."
With these results, Juventus occupies the third position in the standings. Next, Juve will host Salernitana (12/9), before facing Benfica three days later.
